Schools - Primary & Nursery School

Dersingham VA Primary and Nursery School is a happy and vibrant school for children aged 2 – 11. Our early years children, aged 2 to 5 years old, are based at Saxon Way. The smaller site gives the younger child an excellent start to their education, through child initiated fun learning activities, carefully planned from the childrens' interests, challenging and extending their learning.

Children from Year 1 to Year 6 are based at our main site at Admirals Drive. We offer a high quality broad and creative curriculum, catering for the needs of all our children. Both school sites are bright and well resourced with exciting outdoor areas that gives children the opportunity to extend their learning further. We enjoy being part of the village community and appreciate the local links we have.

Our school offers a variety of after school clubs including sports, dance, music and gardening. We provide a Breakfast Club daily where children enjoy a healthy breakfast and are supervised from 7.30 – 8.30am. We also provide a daily afterschool club from 3 - 5pm where the children enjoy a healthy snack and take part in lots of different activities. Within the school, we also run a Parent and Toddler group. This runs every Thursday within term time for 0 – 4 year olds at Saxon Way. All are welcome.

If you would like to come and look round the school please contact the Headteacher, Mrs. Gayle Platt, on 01485 540308. You can find more information on our website, see the link below.

Public Transport

Dersingham is well served by local buses operated by Lynx and it is possible to reach King’s Lynn and Hunstanton by more than one route. Beyond Hunstanton, the coastal villages are also reachable using the Coastliner service which continues all the way to Wells. Some buses to King’s Lynn go via Sandringham and Castle Rising. Norwich and Fakenham can be reached by bus from King’s Lynn and there are some services from there to outlying villages.
By rail there is a regular service, usually hourly, from King’s Lynn to Ely, Cambridge and London King’s Cross. Many other destinations can be reached by changing at Ely or Cambridge.

Note that due to the current Coronavirus public health situation, timetables for both buses and trains have changed and services reduced. Be sure to check the latest travel information.

Waste Disposal & Recycling

Wheelie bins for domestic waste are emptied fortnightly alternating with the collection of recyclables. Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, card, cardboard, food and drink tins and plastic bottles should be placed in the green bin for recycling. In Dersingham the normal collection day is Wednesday, although this can change at holiday times. There is a weekly collection of food waste with liner bags available from the Post Office. Anyone unable to handle the bins should contact the Helpline 01553 776676.

Garden waste can be collected in brown bins rented from the Borough Council, who will then empty them. Bulky household items-such as furniture, fridges, freezers, cookers etc - will be collected at a charge of around £14 for up to three items. The Household Waste Recycling Centre at Heacham is available for the free disposal of bulky household and garden waste. For all queries, telephone the Helpline: 01553 776676.
