West Norfolk Tai Chi Chaun

Dersingham Walking Group
There is no charge for our walks keep an eye on the Village events for walking dates and time (wearing suitable clothing and sturdy footwear). Well behaved dogs are welcome provided they are kept at the rear of the group.  For further information contact Keith Starks (01485 542268)

Dersingham Bell Ringers

The group of Dersingham Ringers is based at St Nicholas Church and is an affiliated member of the Norwich Diocesan Association of Bellringers. Bell ringing takes place before Sunday Services from 10am to 10.30am, as well as on special occasions such as weddings. Training can be provided for anyone aged 11 upwards. Friends of Dersingham First & Nursery School

The Friends aim to support the school by organising fund raising activities. Funds raised provide the school with little luxuries that could not normally be afforded but which enhance the children’s fun and enjoyment. The Friends organise a 50/50 club that has a monthly draw. All social and fund raising activities are open to parents and local residents, so if you feel you would like to be involved please contact the school (telephone 540022).

The Friends of St. Nicholas’ Church

The Friends of St. Nicholas’ Church are dedicated to supporting the Vicar and Churchwardens in maintaining our church building and its contents. Many people in Dersingham, past residents and visitors, are anxious to preserve this fine historic building, with its fixtures and fittings, for the benefit of future generations. There are regular fund-raising events and significant donations have been made in recent years towards vital improvements. Further possible jobs ahead include re-leading the windows and ‘re-voicing’ the organ. The Friends are a registered charity. Vine Prayer Fellowship

The Vine Prayer Fellowship meets every Tuesday at 24 Station Road at 7.30pm for a time of prayer that is informal and friendly, with no set pattern or liturgy. A warm welcome is extended to all who would like to join together in prayer and people are encouraged to contribute as and when they feel able. Home Watch

The Home Watch organisation acts under the umbrella of the police and enables a community or group of neighbours to combine with the aim of reducing crime within the community. There are ten active Home Watch schemes operating in Dersingham and more information about these - or about how new areas can be covered - is available from the Home Watch Administrator. Patients Participation Group

The Patients Participation Group provides a ‘patient’s voice’ and was established to provide a forum for the exchange of information between Carole Brown Health Centre patients and the health professionals. It also provides a focus for fund-raising to provide services and facilities not normally provided by the statutory bodies. Sports

Dersingham Carpet Bowls Club Dersingham Carpet Bowls Club play at St George's School, Admirals Way every Friday evening from 6.45pm to 9.15pm. Contacts: Chairman: David Hart (telephone:543678); Secretaries: Maureen Baker (telephone:544883) & Angela Gee (telephone:541397).

Dersingham Cricket Club

Dersingham Cricket Club plays on the Sports Ground in Manor Road from April to September in the Howes Percival Norfolk Cricket Alliance League on Saturdays, with friendly matches and four competitive matches for the Stan Biss Trophy on Sundays. The Club runs a senior team as well as an Under 11 team. Senior nets are held on Wednesday evenings during the season and Youth nets and training are held on Friday evenings. New members are welcome, both social and playing. A bar is open for members on match days. Dersingham Football Club

Dersingham Football Club runs four men’s senior teams (playing on Saturday afternoons at The Pastures in Manor Road), as well as various minor teams. A mini soccer tournament is held in August. Contacts: Men’s teams: P Richmond (telephone: 542158); Minors’ teams: Karl Bowman (telephone: 543228).

Dersingham Institute Bowls Club

The Dersingham Institute Bowls Club is adjacent to the Church Hall in Manor Road and is open from April to September. Contact: Mrs P Tomkins (telephone: 544543).

Dersingham Tennis Club

The Dersingham Tennis Club uses the floodlit all weather courts on the Manor Road Sports Field. Club nights during the season (April to September) are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 9pm and on Sundays from 10am to 1pm; the first half of each session is primarily for the Juniors. Membership fees range from £15 for Juniors to £40 for Family membership and allow access to club nights and subsidised coaching. The Club is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association. The club plays competitive matches in the West Norfolk Tennis League. Outside club nights, the floodlit area can be booked by collecting the key from Rossiters Garage in Manor Road. St Nicholas Church Badminton Club

St Nicholas Church Badminton Club plays in the Church Hall at 7.30pm on Thursdays. Anyone wishing to organise sessions at other times will also be welcome. Contact: Michael Horton (telephone 579084).

The Albert Victor Bowls Club

The Albert Victor Bowls Club in Manor Road (near Lynn Road) is open from April to September. In addition, social events are held on Saturday and Sunday evenings from September to April. Bingo is held on the second Wednesday of every month between April and September. Contact: Mr A Daw (telephone: 542414).

Dersingham Methodist Church Sunday School

Dersingham Methodist Church Sunday School, for children aged 3 and upwards, meets at the Methodist Church Hall on Sundays at 10.30am. Contact: Rosemary Caink (telephone 01553 631618)

Dersingham Playgroup

Dersingham Playgroup meets at the Community Centre. The Playgroup meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 11.30am. Children are accepted in the term in which their third birthday occurs. Contact: Lynn Reeve(telephone: 01485 543300).

Puddleducks Toddler Group

Puddleducks Toddler Group meets at the Methodist Church Hall on Mondays and Fridays from 9.30am to 11am during term-time offering a range of toys and craft activities and a chance to meet other carers. A charge of £1 per family per session is made. Contact: Emma Eyre (telephone: (540809).

St Nicholas Parent & Toddler Group

The St Nicholas Parent & Toddler Group meets every Tuesday during term time at the church hall opposite St Nicholas Church. The hall is open from 8.30am until 11.15am and babies are welcome from birth. Refreshments are served and toys andchildren’s activities are provided, as is the opportunity to meet other parents/grandparents/carers. The charge is 50p per family. When children have moved on to Nursery or Playgroup, parents are still welcome to call for a coffee and a chat. Contact: Margaret Laanest (telephone: (540935).

Dersingham Junior Flower Club

Dersingham Junior Flower Club meets at the Church Hall in Manor Road on the second Wednesday of each month between 5.30pm and 7pm and is open to children aged 8 years or more. Members enjoy practical work with flowers, foliage and related crafts. Membership costs £5 a year and there is a fee of 50p payable at meetings. Norfolk Army Cadet Force

The Sandringham Detachment of the Army Cadet Force for girls and boys aged 12-18 years meets at the Drill Hall in Dodds Hill from 7pm to 9.30pm on Thursdays. Activities include drill, map and compass, shooting, fieldcraft, athletics, abseiling and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. Scouts & Guides

Dersingham Scouts & Guides have their own headquarters in Manor Road. The Beavers are for boys aged from 6-8 years old and meet on Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.15pm. Contact: Tracey Melton (telephone: 540907).

The 1st Dersingham Scouts meet on Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm. Any boys from Dersingham and surrounding villages aged between 10 and 15 years are welcome.Contact: Rod Saunders (telephone: 542885).

The 1st Dersingham Rainbow Guide Unit for girls aged 5 to 7 years meets on Thursdays from 4.15pm to 5.30pm. Contact: Mrs Lynne Wheeler (telephone: 544753).

The 1st Dersingham Brownie Guide Unit for girls aged between 7 and 10 meets on Thursdays from 6pm to 7.30pm. Contact: Mrs C Calderbank (telephone: 528446).

The 2nd Dersingham Brownie Guide Unit for girls aged between 7 and 10 years meets on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm. Contact: Mrs Lynne Wheeler (telephone: 544753).

The 1st Sandringham Guide Unit for girls from the Dersingham and Sandringham group of Parishes. It meets on Thursdays at the Dersingham Community Centre from 7pm to 8.30pm. Contact: Mrs Alex Polaine (telephone: 542147).

Adult Activities

Dersingham Evening Women’s Institute

The Women’s Institute is a national organisation whose aim is to offer opportunities for all women - particularly those living in rural areas - to enjoy friendship, to learn, to widen their horizons and together to influence local, national and international affairs. Our meetings are held monthly, usually on the third Wednesday, at St Cecilia’s in Mountbatten Road from 7.15pm to 10pm and are advertised by posters around the village. Programmes are varied and include interesting speakers, demonstrations, outings and social events. Members can join our walking, dining, keep fit and craft groups. Beyond our local activities, they can take advantage of a wide range of classes and special interest days arranged throughout Norfolk and beyond. Visitors are always welcome. Dersingham Flower Club

Dersingham Flower Club practises the art of flower arranging. Meetings take place at the Church Hall in Manor Road on the first Thursday of every month and include demonstrations, practical work, and general information regarding materials. From time to time, outings are arranged to demonstrations, gardens and places of interest. Membership costs £8 a year and there is a fee of 50p payable at meetings. Dersingham Mothers Union

The Dersingham Branch of the Mothers Union meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except August) at 2.30pm in the Church Hall in Manor Road. Membership costs £12 for the year and is for all who have been baptised; all age groups are welcome, whether married, single or one-parent. Dersingham Horticultural Society

The Horticultural Society meets at 7.30pm on the second Thursday of each month at St Cecilia’s Church, Mountbatten Road. The Society’s objectives are to promote and encourage interest in horticultural and allied subjects, to provide a forum for likeminded residents to develop social links, and to give support to local organisations and charities. Activities include evening meetings with guest speakers, visits, social evenings; an annual Gardener’s Fair in May and an Annual Show in September. Dersingham Methodist Church Jigsaw Club

Dersingham Methodist Church Jigsaw Club meets at the Methodist Church Hall on the third Thursday of each month between 9.30am and 10.30am. Contact: Gerald & Hilary Naylor (telephone 543364 )

Dersingham Methodist Church Art Club

Dersingham Methodist Church Art Club meets at the Methodist Church Hall on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm. 'More a club than an Art Class.' Contact: Len Griggs (telephone 543623)

Dersingham Social Club

The Dersingham Social Club in Lynn Road is open to anyone over the age of 16 who lives or has lived in Dersingham or certain nearby villages. The Club has two bars and TV room with Sky Digital. The Club has ladies’ and men’s teams for darts, pool, cribbage and dominoes. Bingo is played on alternate Tuesdays and Quiz Nights are organised occasionally. There is regular, free entertainment for members, including live bands, karaoke and discos. Non-members may join members as guests for a small charge. The Club has access and toilets for disabled people. Single membership is £5 a year; the fee for couples is £7-50 and for Senior Citizens £3. Contact: Club Steward (telephone: 543365).

Fire Station

Sandringham Fire Station is situated in Dodds Hill. Anyone interested in joining the Retained Fire Service - which is an equal opportunities employer - should contact the Station Officer, Dennis Wright (telephone 544038 - Station or 542509 - home).

Lavender Lacemakers

The Lavender Lacemakers meet once a month from 10am to 3pm at the Community Centre every Tuesday and also on the second Saturday of every month. Anyone interested is invited to visit the class. Contact: Mrs Lynn Halifax (telephone: 533611).

North West Norfolk Phobbies Club

The Phobbies Club provides all kinds of hobbies and crafts for people who are physically disabled. The Club meets every Thursday at the Church Hall in Manor Road from 10.30am to 3pm. Other events include a coffee morning (March); a stall at the Sandringham Flower Show (July); and Open Day (August or September); and a Christmas Fayre (November). The weekly subscription is £1.50. Orchard Close Social Club

Orchard Close Social Club offers bingo, Excel gentle fitness classes for all, including disabled people and those unemployed. Coffee mornings and ‘drop-in’ afternoons with games or a chat and refreshments are held weekly, as well as other events. Open to anyone. Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes

The Sandringham Lodge of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes meets at 8pm each Tuesday at the Community Centre in Manor Road. Contact: Mr A J Bridges, 42 Gelham Manor (telephone: 541364).

Royal British Legion

The Royal British Legion offers support and assistance to all serving and ex-serving personnel and their dependants. The Dersingham & Sandringham Branch meets at the Albert Victor Bowls Club House in Manor Road on the second Monday in each month at 7.30pm. Most months there is a guest speaker and social functions are held periodically. Membership is open to all ex-service personnel and to others who support the aims of the legion. Royal British Legion Women’s Section

The Royal British Legion Women’s Section meets on the first Monday of each month at 2.15pm at the Orchard Close Community Room for social and fund-raising activities to help ex-service personnel and their dependants. All women are welcome to join for an annual subscription of £4.50. Contact: Ivy Hawkins (telephone: 540898).

Salvation Army

Salvation Army services are held four times a year in the Orchard Close Hall. Contact: Ian Goddard (telephone 541201).

West Norfolk Conservation Volunteers

West Norfolk Conservation Volunteers is a practical countryside conservation group which carries out projects such as tree planting, pond improvements, hedge planting, woodland work and nature reserve work in West Norfolk, including Dersingham. Project work is usually arranged fortnightly on Sundays between 10am and 4pm, with occasional work on Wednesdays. Contact: John Loveless (telephone 01553 765434).

Senior Citizens

Age Concern

Age Concern will endeavour to help anyone aged over 55 who needs help about any problem. The local Age Concern Information Centre is at 16 High Street, Heacham (telephone: 579077) and is open Mondays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm.

Dersingham Day Centre for the Elderly

Dersingham Day Centre for the Elderly meets on Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm at the Community Centre in Manor Road. It provides recreation and leisure occupations, and a midday meal. Members have to be recommended by Social Services or their doctor and live in Dersingham, West Newton, Anmer, Shernborne or Wolferton. A nominal fee is charged at each meeting. Dersingham Seniors Club

The Seniors Club provides a social get-together for the over 60s on alternate Fridays at the Church Hall in Manor Road from 2.15pm to 4.30pm. Varied entertainment and outings to places of interest.
