Amenities

Dersingham United Charities

Nine volunteer trustees manage approximately 100 acres of land in Dersingham, divided into farmland, fuel allotments (commons) and field gardens (allotments). Revenue from the land is used to provide funding for projects that benefit the sick, elderly isolated and those suffering hardship.

Chairman of the trustees is Mr Alan Cross with Mr Simon Davidson, Mr Alan Hayward, Mrs J Riches and Mrs Sarah Harmer who are all representative trustees appointed by the Parish Council to serve a minimum of four years.  Mrs M Davey, Mr A E Riches and Mrs G R E Stanton are co-opted by the committee to serve a minimum of five years.  The vicar of the parish of St Nicholas completes the committee.

The Clerk, who is appointed by the trustees, is Mrs R Mountain, 11 Bank Road, Dersingham, King’s Lynn, Norfolk PE31 6WH.

Accounts, which are sent directly to the Charity Commissioners at the end of the financial year (March), are available to any parishioner, on request, from the clerk of the Trustees. An Annual Report is distributed at the Annual Parish Meeting. This outlines the charity contributions made, maintenance work being carried out, and clarifies areas that are causing concern. This report is also available on request (as above).

Waste Disposal & Recycling

Wheelie bins for domestic waste are emptied weekly.  Dersingham also now has a fortnightly wheelie bin (green) collection of recyclables: newspapers, magazines, junk mail, card, cardboard, food and drink tins and all plastic bottles should be placed in bins for recycling.  Anyone unable to handle the bins can receive help: contact the number below.

Garden waste will not be collected in the wheelie bins; green sacks for green waste can be purchased at 50p each from the Parish Office or refuse collection contractors. As many sacks as have been purchased will be collected. Bulky household items - such as furniture, fridges, freezers, cookers - will be collected at a charge of £10 for up to three items.

The Household Waste Recycling Centre at Heacham is available for the free disposal of bulky household and garden waste free of charge.

For all queries, telephone the Helpline: 01553 776676.

Other services

There is a collection point for aluminium cans at the Surgery in Saxon Way. The local Scouts collect newspapers and magazines for recycling and residents are urged to support this scheme, as it provides the Scouts with valuable funds. Please bundle your newspapers and magazines securely and leave them in the porch of the Scout headquarters adjacent to the Feathers Hotel car park in Manor Road.

Summer Activities

For the sixth year, summer activities were arranged in Dersingham during the first week of the school summer holidays.

Activities included a Seaside Rock Holiday Club and two days with different games, activities and crafts.

The same 36 children came flooding back each day and some wanted to know if they could come every day of the holiday!

It cost approximately £430 to run the Holiday Club.  The team thanked the Early Learning Centre, King’s Lynn for the loan of a sandpit, and to Hughes Electrical of Hunstanton for the loan of television and video equipment, and to Dersingham |Parish Council for their support.

In order to run a similar Holiday Club in summer 2006 any offers of help would be gratefully received: contact the Parish Clerk on 01485 451465.

Children’s Sports

In August 2005 th Parish Council and Borough Council’s sports development programme held four days of sporting activities for children of school age in the village.  These included multi-sport, football, short cricket and tennis.  The entire activities were well attended and enjoyed by the children.  A similar programme is planned for this year.  Anyone interested in helping is invited to contact the Parish Council Clerk on 01485 451465.
